This exhibit seeks to look at diversity from within- from within the prevailing western Euro-American art canon.   The artists featured here came to art through non traditional means, including blue collar/industrial and scientific engineering.  Shunned from the established artworld, these artists are creating important and unique works that often take in their uncommon backgrounds.

 

As viewers of our web site know, Amit May Fine Arts' goal is to exhibit and promote art from diverse cultures.  Serving as an alternative to the mainstream western artworld, we have featured artists and cultures from around the globe.  This exhibit of western Euro-American art serves to reinforce and expand on the concept of cultural diversity.   First there is the notion of not excluding any group of quality artists.  Second, and perhaps more subtle, by having a western art section alongside many categories of different cultures, we elevate the weight of those cultures.  So unlike most museums and galleries which exhibit 80% plus western artists and a small sampling of other cultures, we are turning that ratio around and featuring western art as one of many art cultures.
