This exhibition, mostly culled from our permanent collection,
reflects a unique point in time and space. The space being Vietnam and the time
being the 1990's, as the social and economic liberation policies of doi moi (open door)
took effect. These policies changed the country profoundly, including a new level of
diplomatic, economic and cultural relationships with the west and particularly the USA.
Most of these
artworks were created in the early to mid 90's, a time of great artistic development and
proliferation in Vietnam, particularly in Hanoi. The exhibition is divided into 4
categories, each exploring a unique aspect of Vietnamese art, culture and lifestyle.
