Jeronimo Melo

Melo produced this series of works during his residency in the Bay Area late last year. Always experimenting with non-traditional materials and various organic and inorganic forms, the California experience has uniquely impacted this latest body of works. As an abstractionist where content is derived from form, Melo aims to create a psychological depth and expressive force with his painterly techniques. His use of marble and silica powders to build up a smooth, semi matt finish reflects the light of the color acrylics to create depth and interaction. His exploration of density and space seek to open doorways into the pictorial process, and allows us to immerse ourselves in sensations and emotions. Ultimately the works serve as personal inspirations, open to one's interpretation.

Melo participated in prestigious international biennials including, Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latino Americano y del Caribe, Puerto Rico, Bienal Nacional de Pictura 1992, Mexico, and VI Bienal Nacional Diego Rivera 1994, Mexico. Museum exhibitions include Museo de Arte Moderno and Museo de Rufino Tamayo in Mexico.
